Maternity leave

Lying in a heap.

Eating chocolates until noon.

Not lifting a finger in the kitchen.

Refusing to do dishes.

Full control of the remote.

Forgetting to buy groceries.

Forgetting the keys to the house.

Forgetting almost everything

and that’s just the father to be.

November 25th Fly

Moving slowly across the heated pane.

Groggy from over-sleeping.

The Detroit Lions Newspaper is carefully

rolled into a knuckle.

A few light taps on wrist.

Checking for the frequency and

then a purposeful smudge,

leaving the wings to gather

on the unstained sill.
